"EvERYBODY PEES" (2016)
|
Whether you realize it or not, trans people are living among you, and just like everyone else, we need to pee.
"Everybody Pees" was a project where I put up stickers in public bathrooms around the Bay Area to not-so-subtly notify people that a trans person had peed there. I am someone who generally "passes" without any issue, but this wasn't always how things were. Because of my experiences, I wanted to address and challenge perceptions of what it means to be visibly trans. At an "inclusive" college, what do people really think? What will people say when nobody is there to judge them? As it turns out, all kinds of things. Anonymity allows people to speak their minds but also incites bigotry. At the same time, there were always people willing to rebuild what was lost. |
